    1. Nancy Sommers said " what is impossible in speech is revision" Students do not use revision the correct way. Linear models makes it easier to revise as Barthes says " there is a fundemantal tie between teaching and speech" Teaching and speech have ways in common to revise but some what difficult. Sommers gathered student and experienced writers to produce three essays which are expressive, explanatory, and persuasive. She wanted to see how much experience they both had with writing and had them revise their own essays. There are also four revision of operations, it includes deletion, substitution, addition and reordering.

    2. The aim of revision according to the students' own descrip- tion is therefore to clean up speech; the redundancy of speech is unnecessary in writing, their logic suggests, because writing, unlike speech, can be reread. (sommers, 1980, pp. 381)
The purpose of revising is correcting mistakes to make it sound superior (Sommers, 1980).

    1. most of the students didn't know what revision and rewriting was because they weren't use to those terms.
    2. that revision was to correct speech on the essays.
    3. students list repetition as something they find difficult because they have to reword or delete there sentence.
    4. if the student doesn't see a problem there's no revision to be made

  3. Group 3 Revision Strategies of Experienced Writers

An author explained his own experiences with revision strategies. It is easier to keep writing on your first draft until you know what you really want to say. Most of the time, first drafts are very helpful because you collect your thoughts and ideas. It can reflect or balance your revisions. For the final draft, it's easier to revise because it's cleaner and organized.
